According to The National Family Healy Survey 2019-20, Karnataka has approximately, 97,000 pregnant women per month, out of which 43,211 women are found to be anaemic. For women who have limited financial resources, eating a wholesome meal that can nourish their body and their child’s, becomes difficult.

The Akshaya Patra Foundation has joined hands with the Government of Karnataka to provide 50,000 Shakti Kits to pregnant women all over the state as part of the Nutrition for Pregnant Mothers Programme.

What is a Shakti Kit?

Akshaya Patra distributes Shakti kits priced at £9 per kit to nourish pregnant women with the required nutrients. With each kit, a pregnant mother will receive the following items that can take care of food requirements for 15 days:
 

Good nutrition and healthy food intake during the antenatal period are critical for expecting mothers. Eating food rich in fibre, iron and calcium, etc. can decrease the risk of congenital diseases and nutritional deficiencies in newborns.
